Understanding MS: Communication Challenges & Support Strategies

  1. Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

We invite you to join our team where you will play a vital role in organizing and promoting an event aimed at raising awareness for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  This collaboration can serve as a valuable reference for you in the future. We are organizing the MS “Walk & Roll” Celebration in Eau Claire to raise awareness and providing education “Tools and Takeaways” on Communication Science Disorders that impact individuals living with MS in our community and their loved ones.

Students are provided with an opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities developed through their undergraduate education in a professional setting at the MS “Walk & Roll“ Celebration March 29, 2025 at The Sonnentag Event Center. We are seeking help in logistics, creating an interactive educational, art, music and movement event.  Perseverance and courage will be essential for creating a successful experience for all participants.

  1. What skills are required for this project?

The Speech & Hearing Event Booth at the MS "Walk & Roll" event on March 29, 2025, will educate attendees on how Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects communication and auditory processing. The booth will highlight challenges such as slurred speech, voice fatigue, word-finding difficulties, and hearing impairments, while also presenting strategies for improving communication. Students will need research skills to gather accurate information, communication skills to engage with attendees, and design skills to create interactive visuals. This project will also develop their teamwork, problem-solving, and event planning abilities, providing hands-on experience in public education and accessibility awareness. Through this booth, participants will gain a better understanding of MS-related speech and hearing challenges and available support resources.

Event planning, problem-solving, and teamwork are also essential, as students will help organize educational activities and collaborate with event organizers and the MS community.
